Top Ten Tuesday – things that make me want to read a book!

Today I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday (it’s been a while since I’ve done one – how sad!) Today I’ll be talking about things that automatically make me want to read a book!

1. Epistolary books – basically, if it’s told through IMs/emails/texts/etc, I WANT TO READ IT. I have always been obsessed with books told in this format, and it’s never changed. If you have good recommendations, PLEASE let me know because I’m always on the search for good ones! I think they are underrated and not as common as I wish they were. I need to commission someone to write me more of them. (Authors – take note! 😛 )
2. Anything with the word “thriller” in the description. As you guys know, I am IN LOVE with thrillers and read tons of them. It’s my most read genre. I love psychological thrillers, especially if there is a stalker involved. I DON’T KNOW WHY and I don’t like telling people that because I feel like it makes me sound creepy! 
3. Anything recommended or rated highly by my lovely friend Sam at Clues and Reviews! She’s my book soulmate, and I often get great thriller recommendations from her. 
4. Books published by Bookouture. They can basically do no wrong. They are a small publisher that publishes a lot of thrillers, and every time I pick one up, I fall in love with it, so I basically stalk them on Netgalley and Twitter now so I can see what they have coming up! 
5. Books that have a lot of chatter and/or high ratings on social media/goodreads. I can’t lie, I like to be in the loop! I want to know WHY everyone is talking about them! What am I missing? I’m a sheep. I know. I can’t control myself. I just want to be on the bandwagon – don’t judge me! (Or at least just don’t judge me a lot…)
6. Books that have been compared to Harry Potter. Not that I want a Harry Potter replacement (or that I think it’s possible for one to exist), but I do love the way magic was created in the Harry Potter world. It was uncomplicated, but fun and still required learning. I like that style of Fantasy, so if a book is compared to HP, I’ll definitely be reading it’s blurb on Goodreads at the very least. 
7. Books with plot twists! Okay, okay, I know that I can’t technically know if there’s a plot twist until I read the book, BUT if I see a lot of people talking about a crazy twist in a book, I’m super likely to read it (and probably quickly so it doesn’t get ruined for me!) Since I read a lot of thriller, it can sometimes be hard for a book to completely surprise me, so if I think it might do that, I definitely want to pick it up.
8. A sarcastic main character. My sense of humor is very sarcastic, and not everyone appreciates that (I don’t understand how though! Sarcastic people are the best people!), so I love reading books where the main character is snarky and sarcastic! They always seems to have hilarious one liners that make me laugh out loud, which can be very embarrassing in public, but also worth it!
9. Young adult books that read like I’m watching a TV show. I like YA novels, especially when I need a break from things requiring more thinking and attention. They are a nice palate cleanser for me, however, they have to be the RIGHT YA book. I don’t like anything overly sappy or cheesy, so I try and avoid those. If the YA books sounds like a show I could watch on the CW, I’ll probably want to read it. 
10. Lastly, pretty covers. I know, I KNOW, you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, and I try reallllllly hard not to, BUT…I love color. I guarantee that if I’m browsing a bookstore and see a really bright/colorful/vibrant/pretty cover, that I will at the very least pick up the book and read the blurb. I won’t always end up buying it or wanting to read it, but it certainly gets my attention better than books with boring or ugly covers! They also help my bookstagram aesthetic, so it’s really a win/win.
